A história do Fiat Uno
Em nosso país, a história do Fiat Uno começa em 1984, mais especificamente no mês de agosto, quando foi oficialmente lançado. Acontece que, na realidade, o simpático compacto da montadora italiana já tinha iniciado sua trajetória no final dos anos de 1970. Foi a época em que a Lancia, uma das marcas do grupo, preparava um novo veículo para sua linha que, no continente europeu, sempre rendeu modelos luxuosos e sofisticados.
Um carro de luxo barato
Em 1979, a Fiat tomou conta do projeto para ser o novo modelo de sua marca e o carro Uno substituiria o valente 127, que ficou conhecido no Brasil como 147. O pequeno automóvel enfrentou problemas até antes de nascer, pois era uma versão barata demais para receber a luxuosa montadora Lancia e, ao mesmo tempo, cara demais para compor uma linha popular da Fiat.
Então, os técnicos italianos tiveram o complexo de trabalho de fazer do compacto, até então sem nome, um carro realmente barato e popular. Depois de bastante esforço, o lançamento ocorreu na Europa no começo do ano de 1983, já com a marca Fiat e com todas as características que carregou durante sua existência.
Por que “Uno”?
Muitos devem se perguntar de onde vem o nome Uno. Quando o projeto saiu da Lancia e parou na Fiat, recebeu a sigla “Tipo 146”. Para simplificar a identificação enquanto havia a produção, os técnicos e documentos internos falavam somente o primeiro número, que era 1. Ou Uno, na língua italiana.
O Uno brasileiro é diferente do italiano
O Uno Fiat, no Brasil, teve o projeto modificado em comparação ao carro original. Até porque as condições das estradas e ruas brasileiras exigiam suspensões mais robustas e uma altura maior em relação ao solo. Por isso, o carro produzido aqui usava a mesma plataforma mecânica do seu antecessor 147, mantendo a suspensão traseira, feita por meio de um único feixe de molas transversal.
Além disso, sua altura livre do solo era 1,5 cm maior que a do veículo essencialmente italiano. O estepe, por sua vez, ficava na dianteira, junto ao motor, resultando em um capô ligeiramente mais alto, o que virou uma tendência.
A vantagem principal estava na possibilidade de aumentar substancialmente a capacidade do porta-malas. Isso porque, no Brasil, ele era utilizado também por famílias inteiras, que precisavam de mais espaço para as bagagens. Ou seja, o nosso Fiat Uno já nasceu com personalidade própria. Todas essas mudanças visavam as necessidades do público consumidor local.
Botinha ortopédica
O Uno, até hoje encontrado em uma concessionária Fiat em São Paulo, recebeu o apelido de “botinha ortopédica”. Bom, nos tempos do lançamento, muitas pessoas começaram a associar o design do carro a uma bota ortopédica. Aquelas usadas quando alguém sofre luxação ou quebra os ossos do pé para corrigir as pisadas.
Essas botinhas tinham lateral mais alta do que os calçados normais, e o carrinho da Fiat apresentava janelas e teto mais altos que os de outros modelos da mesma categoria. Até o final dos anos 80, foi um apelido extremamente popular.
